What's going on
In the Borgo there is a restaurant typical of the place with three cosy dining rooms carved out of what at one time were the peasants' huts, where you can savour the dishes of the ancient Lucca tradition prepared by the cook in the old-fashioned original manner. Beef tordelli al pomodoro, frantoiana soup, trenette al pesto (long noodles in a sauce of ground herbs and oil) maltagliati pasta and spelt and bean soup, just to mention only a few of the first courses, but also exquisite Tuscan meats on the grille or chestnut-meal cakes with ricotta cheese, or onion omelets, or fried rabbit, or steamed chicken with olives. And still more: the good vegetables from the L'arbuolo farm, cooked in wood-burning ovens in the Borgo just like the bread or the pastries. Near the Borgo's little piazza there is a shop where one can buy every product from the farm, from the excellent olive oil, through the wine, the honey or the jams and preserves; near the piazza too, set between the large pool and the playground, there is the bar with a small dining room at the guest's disposal.

AND THEN HORSES AND TENNIS, EXCURSIONS ALONG COUNTRY PATHS ON FOOT OR RIDING A BICYCLE

The excursion

Four new trails now depart from the Borgo to wind through an unspoiled nature and let the visitor take panoramic walks to reach a number of mediaeval villages in the neighborhood, or the church in Partigliano, where Sunday mass is celebrated by Franciscan brother Cesarino, or the meadows on mount Guzzanello with its ancient Romitorio or hermitage. For these and other paths horses or mountain bikes can be rented. The Borgo is also outfitted with a solid rolled-earth tennis court.

The park

Appointments can be made with the hairdresser and beautician. In summer aqua gym and aerobics courses will be offered, and during the evenings on the poolside there is the piano bar and the pizzeria right near it.

THE ARRIVAL OF GNOME GIUSTINO

Great news for our young guests at Borgo Giusto: late Spring saw the arrival in the Piazzetta of a new and particular friend, immediately nicknamed "gnome Giustino", given his size. He wears a green leaf as a cap, a flower as a necklace and runs around a lot, playing with Cemy, our dog from the Maremma region of Tuscany, now his inseparable mate. They move around together a lot, from the tennis court to the pool. Children who have met him have been enthusiastic. They have had loads of fun wallowing in the dedicated pool and playground. Here they can follow a course, leading to a bouncy castle to conquer, reached through a 22 m long cableway. Ropes and steps take them to the top of the tower; but a fast slide down allows them to escape dragons and enemies. Our little heroes can take a break from all this adventurous activity, by taking an imaginary stroll on the wooden horses, or relaxing on the swings.

Upon request, we can also provide a baby sitter to let the children continue enjoing Borgo Giusto.

TOURING AROUND

LUCCA: Borgo Giusto is only fifteen minutes from Lucca, a city of ancient traditions that became an independent republic around the middle of the sixteenth century: Over the centuries Lucca has never lost its spirit of independence, making the defense of Libertas, as is engraved on its arms placed over the gate of St. Peter, its objective. This is why the Renaissance walls were built, whose 4.2 kilometer long belt, interrupted only by its three monumental gates and outfitted with ten bastions, embrace the entire historic city center.
Today the visitor can make their entire circuit, whether walking or by bicycle, while at the same time enjoying the magnificent view of all the city's principal monuments and palaces - and, before the end of the year, when the lighting project is completed, guests will be able to enjoy this evocative panorama during the evening as well. Not to be missed is a visit to the cathedral of San Martino, on the old Via Francigena, the goal in Mediaeval times of pilgrimages by the faithful journeying to Rome. In the cathedral can be seen the wooden statue of the Holy Face and the tomb of Ilaria Del Carretto. Of considerable interest too is the Roman amphitheatre from the second century after Christ and the Tower of the Guinigi, quondam lords of the city. Other pleasant tourist sights are the bicycle path along the Serchio river and the Luccan Villas. There are many of them and they bear witness to an age that began in the sixteenth century when kings, aristocrats and rich merchants began what became almost a contest, which has left us with true architectural jewels of the late Renaissance. The nearest, nine kilometers from the Borgo , are Villa Manzi and Villa Reale.

THE LUCCA MARKET: Every third Sunday of the month and the previous Saturday, an antique and modern craft fair is held in Piazza Anteminelli and Piazza San Giusto. Every weekend of each month Piazza San Giusto also holds and art and craft fair dedicated to local craftsmen.

Now to be admired in all its splendour as restoration brought to light details never seen before. Florence is only about a 50 minute drive from Borgo and is definitely worth a visit to the Accademia, housing Michelangelo's David, the Cappelle Medicee, the Galleria Palatina and Palazzo Pitti, to name only a few.

Work then stopped for over a century. The last ring (the seventh) on the belltower, was completed in mid 14th century.
